Unit-Based Quoting

- Enter the cost first, then the markup. One quirk: if you type a cost while the price is still £0, Tradify shows the markup as -100% because it works the markup back from the price. Set the cost, then the markup or price, and it behaves.
- Quote to job in one step. Accepting the quote offered to create the job straight away, with the customer, address and description already filled in.
- Five ways to invoice an accepted quote. The entire quote, selected line items, a percentage, a fixed amount, or the remaining amount, which covers deposits, stage payments and the final balance.
- Deposits can be a penny or two out. A 30% deposit showed as £186.75 in the dialog but the invoice came out at £186.76, and the deposit plus the remaining-amount invoice totalled £622.52 against a £622.50 quote. Only 2p, but worth a glance at the final figure before you send it.
- Card payments are there, but need setting up. Each invoice has an “accept card payments” option, once card payments are connected (transaction fees apply).
Pricing a Brickwork Job in Tradify: A Worked Example
Here is how a garden wall would be laid out as Tradify line items: a 10 metre long, 900mm high, one-brick (double skin) wall with coping, on a new concrete footing. The figures are illustrative, not current merchant prices, so swap in your own costs and rates.

In this example the materials and hire cost £1,603.00 and are sold at £1,923.60, so the job carries £320.60 of margin on top of the labour. Tradify shows you that gross profit on the quote without it ever appearing on the customer’s copy. If you are VAT registered, 20% takes the total to £4,468.32. A 50% deposit invoice would then be £2,234.16, with the remaining amount invoiced once the job is finished.
The Materials Maths Tradify Won’t Do for You
Tradify works out prices, not quantities, so you still need to count bricks and blocks before they go on the quote:
- Half-brick (single skin) walls: about 60 bricks per square metre with standard 10mm joints.
- One-brick (double skin) walls: about 120 bricks per square metre. The example wall is 9m², so 1,080 bricks plus around 10% for cuts and breakages, rounded up to 1,200.
- Standard blocks (440 x 215mm): about 10 per square metre.
- Footings: length x width x depth gives the concrete volume. A 10m trench 450mm wide with 250mm of concrete is 1.125m³, ordered as 1.2.
Once a standard wall is priced, save the lines as price list items so the next quote is a case of changing the quantities.
Where Tradify Falls Short for Bricklayers
No Brick and Block Takeoff Calculator
Tradify has no built-in tool for calculating brick or block quantities from drawings or measurements. You will still need to do your own takeoff, or use a dedicated estimating tool, before pricing a job into Tradify.
No Materials Stock Management
