BoilerFix AI is a technical reference app for gas engineers, fault codes, parts lists, service mode data and certificate tracking for every major boiler brand, built by a practising Gas Safe registered engineer who couldn’t find anything suitable on the market himself. We tested it against real diagnostic scenarios, found one honest labelling issue, and reported it straight to the founder.
What Is BoilerFix AI?
BoilerFix AI is built by Stephen, a working Gas Safe registered engineer, as a single reference app to replace juggling manufacturer manuals and PDFs on site. It covers 1,868+ fault codes across 13 brands, 1,760+ service mode records, and 209,482 boiler parts, alongside 28 certificate types and a customer hub for invoicing and service reminders. A homeowner-facing “Boiler Passport” QR system lets customers see their own boiler’s service history. Available on iOS, Android and web from £3.99–£5.99 a month.
What We Tested
Fault code diagnostics
Looked up a real fault code on a Worcester Greenstar 30i to check the causes, steps and parts returned against the actual service manual.
Parts lookup
Pulled the full parts list for a Worcester Greenstar 30si and checked the part numbers against the manufacturer’s own documentation.
Service mode reference
Ran the service mode entry procedure and combustion targets for a Worcester 24 CDi Mkii against what the manual actually specifies.
Boiler Passport
Reviewed the QR-code homeowner boiler history concept, though couldn’t test a live scan without a physical sticker.
What we found wrong
- “Exploded diagram” mislabelled on at least one model – on the Worcester Greenstar 30si, the page labelled “Exploded diagram” actually showed a scanned parts-list table, not a pictorial exploded view.
- A lingering “scheduled maintenance” banner – sat on screen longer than expected, worth flagging even though it turned out to be genuine, not a permanent fixture.
What the founder did about it
- Confirmed the diagram-labelling catch was correct the same day it was reported, and said the label will be updated
- BoilerFix AI is integrating PartsArena, which will bring proper interactive exploded diagrams across the board as an upgrade, not just a label fix
- Confirmed the maintenance banner was a genuine, temporary notice, not a permanent bug
How the Diagnostics Held Up
We looked up fault code EA 227 on a Worcester Greenstar 30i. The causes, the diagnostic steps and the parts BoilerFix AI returned all matched what’s actually in the service manual, not a generic guess dressed up as a specific answer. For a fault-code lookup tool, that accuracy is the entire point, and it held up.
How the Parts List Held Up
The parts list for the Worcester Greenstar 30si returned 27 parts with real manufacturer part numbers, cited from the actual service manual rather than a scraped or guessed list. This is the strongest part of the app: with 209,482 parts catalogued, the depth is genuinely there, even though the “exploded diagram” label on this model was the one thing that didn’t match what it said on the tin, a scanned parts table rather than a pictorial exploded view, now being addressed via the PartsArena integration above.
How the Service Mode Reference Held Up
For the Worcester 24 CDi Mkii, BoilerFix AI returned the full service mode entry procedure, CO2 and CO targets with the correct tolerances, a dated verification note, and the gas valve safety warning you’d expect to see. This is the kind of on-site reference that saves a genuine trip back to the van for a paper manual, and it checked out against the manual.
What Else BoilerFix AI Does (Business Features)
Our testing focused on the technical reference side, because that is what sets BoilerFix AI apart. After the review went live, the founder pointed out that it also covers a lot of the day-to-day business admin. We haven’t tested these features hands-on yet, so treat this as what BoilerFix AI says it does rather than our verdict:
- Automatic service reminders – when you complete a certificate, the next service date is logged and the customer gets an email a month before it is due.
- Automatic invoice chasing – you set your payment terms and overdue invoices are chased by email for you.
- Bookkeeping – income and expenses tracked in the same app.
- Calculators – including an IGEM/UP/1B tightness test calculator, gas rate, heat loss and pipe sizing.
- Certificates beyond domestic gas – commercial, oil, LPG and heat pump certificates, plus RAMS.
- Boiler Passport – customers scan a QR sticker on the boiler to see its job history, certificates and the boiler manual.
If those features work as described, BoilerFix AI covers more of a sole trader gas engineer’s admin than its £3.99–£5.99 price suggests. We’ll update this review once we’ve put the reminders and invoice chasing through a proper test.
Who Is BoilerFix AI Best Suited To?
Good to Know
Worth knowing before you start
- “Exploded diagram” labelling is inconsistent right now – some models show a scanned parts table rather than a true pictorial diagram, though the PartsArena integration is set to fix this across the board.
- Boiler Passport needs physical QR stickers – sold in packs of 36 for £25, and we weren’t able to test a live homeowner scan without one.
- A brand new, solo-built product – not a big software company behind it, but the turnaround on both issues we flagged was same-day.
Fault codes, parts and service data for 13 boiler brands. TradeStack HQ readers get Pro for £3.99/month instead of £5.99 with code TRADESTACK, for as long as they stay subscribed (first 100 sign-ups). iOS, Android and web.
Verdict – Is BoilerFix AI Worth It?
BoilerFix AI’s fault code, parts and service mode data held up against the real manuals on every model we checked, which is exactly what a technical reference app needs to get right. The one thing we found wrong, a mislabelled exploded diagram, was acknowledged the same day and is already being fixed properly rather than papered over. Built by a working Gas Safe engineer who clearly uses his own tool, it’s a genuinely useful addition to a gas engineer’s phone alongside whatever you use for quoting and invoicing.
